April 2020 Edition

Since the COVID-19 outbreak began, AMGA has made it a top priority to support member medical groups and health systems across the nation in responding to this challenge. For the Together 2 Goal® campaign, this means shifting away from some of our usual T2G content to ensure you have the most up-to-date information and resources to address COVID-19 in patients with diabetes.

In the sections below, we’ve highlighted valuable resources related to diabetes care and COVID-19 for both patients and providers. These materials can also be found within the diabetes section of the AMGA COVID-19 resource page, which hosts a broad range of resources related to responding to the pandemic such as: tactics shared from AMGA members on the frontline, federal policies and guidance, AMGA advocacy efforts, payer resources, and more.

We will work to ensure this page is updated with new resources as they become available, so be sure to check back for updates.

We hope that you stay healthy and safe during this challenging time. If your organization has any tips, tools, or insights you’d like to share relating to your experience with COVID-19, please let us know.

Upcoming Dates

Given the focus on responding to COVID-19, there are no upcoming dates for the month of April. We understand that you need to prioritize your organization’s response to the pandemic.

As a result, we will not be hosting a live April webinar. Instead, this month’s T2G campaign webinar on the Endocrine Society’s Hypoglycemia Prevention Initiative will be prerecorded so you may watch when time allows. The recording will be posted on our webinars page on its originally scheduled date of April 16.

Provider Resources

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) COVID-19 webpage for healthcare professionals is a hub for official guidance and recommendations. Use it to explore everything from FAQs, therapeutic options for COVID-19 patients, and strategies for optimizing the supply of personal protective equipment (PPE).

The Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (ACDES) has a dedicated COVID-19 webpage with a host of resources including webinars, telehealth and billing information, and product supply chain updates.

A flyer from ACDES reminds diabetes care specialists that their self-care is vital during a pandemic. These tips are relevant for all healthcare professionals, so consider sharing them with colleagues.

Patient Resources

A patient-oriented webpage from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is a great resource to share with patients looking for an overview of COVID-19 that provides clear facts and guidance.

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) has a COVID-19 webpage designed for patients with diabetes. Here, patients can learn about their risk, find answers to common questions, and understand what to do if they get sick.

The Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (ACDES) has a variety of handouts on healthy coping behaviors to share with patients with diabetes. They also offer targeted handouts for patients that may be experiencing stress, depression, or diabetes distress.
